First annual Mary Lou Benotto Award for Excellence in Family Law

The first annual Mary Lou Benotto Award for Excellence in Family Law will be presented to an Ontario lawyer who has distinguished themselves in family law.

Nominations are now being accepted.

The award was established by Chief Justice Michael Tulloch and will be presented annually at the Law Society of Ontario’s Family Law Summit.

The award recipient will be a lawyer who has demonstrated commitment to:

  • family law process innovation;
  • skillful advocacy either in litigation or in an alternative dispute resolution context;
  • civility and professionalism; and
  • the importance of giving back to the profession and the community by teaching, mentoring and/or pro bono work.

Nominees must be lawyers in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.  Self-nominations are allowed.

To submit a nomination, send a letter of nomination to Helena Likwornik, Counsel at the Court of Appeal, at Helena.likwornik@ontario.ca.

Nominations should include

  • the recipient’s up-to-date curriculum vitae
  • a description of suitability
  • supporting letters and materials (optional).

The deadline to submit a nomination is March 7.
